President Obama told Oprah Winfrey on Sunday night he gives himself a “good, solid B-plus” for his first 11 months in the Oval Office. On what was billed as Oprah’s “White House Christmas Special,” Obama credited his administration with getting the economy on track, winding down the Iraq war and making the right call for a temporary surge in Afghanistan. He also said America has “reset” its prestige in the world and made progress toward halting development of nuclear weapons in Iran and North Korea. Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 24% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -18. That’s a one point improvement from yesterday when Obama’s Approval Index rating fell to the lowest level yet recorded. Prior to the past three days, the Approval Index had never fallen below -15 during Obama’s time in office. [While Obama tries to give himself a B+ for his fabulous job performance to date, the voters in this country see things in a much different manner as the president drops to his lowest poll numbers since taking office…ed]
Oops! Turns out Obama’s cost-cutting health plan won’t save a dime; cheaper to do nothing
It’s probably just coincidental that bad numbers about President Obama’s much-coveted healthcare legislation came out late last week when few people were paying attention. This is the absolutely crucial healthcare reform plan that simply had to be drafted, discussed, debated, amended and passed before early August. It’s supposed to cover millions more Americans and reduce the nation’s soaring medical costs. Turns out, not. Here’s a little chapter review before semester finals: Analysts in the Obama administration’s Health and Human Services Department reported Friday that the nation’s $2.5-trillion annual healthcare tab will not shrink at all under the Democrats’ legislative blueprint as being pushed by happy Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic leader in the Senate. [ObamaCare isn’t about costs, it’s all about complete control over the lives of all Americans…ed]
Lieberman resists Medicare buy-in plan
Risking the wrath of Democrats, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., threatened Sunday to join Republicans in opposing health care legislation if it permits uninsured individuals as young to 55 to purchase Medicare coverage. Lieberman, whose vote is critical to the bill’s prospects, expressed his opposition twice during the day: first in an interview with CBS, and more strongly later, according to Democratic officials, in a private meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid, who is hoping to pass the legislation by Christmas, needs 60 votes to overcome Republican objections, and has been counting on Lieberman to provide one. [Lieberman appears to be angling for some kind of major perk from the Democrats rather than standing on principle against the ObamaCare mess. We’ll see which way this fella swings when it comes down to brass tacks but I strongly suspect he’ll toe the line with the Democrats in screwing the American people…ed]

Democrats are having fun highlighting the “civil war” within the Republican Party, but their schadenfreude may be short-lived. Conservative and moderate Democrats are failing one liberal litmus test after another, stoking not just frustration on the left but also potential primary challenges. The list of those tests starts with the public option, a proposed government-sponsored health insurance plan that appears to be losing ground on Capitol Hill despite continued popularity in opinion polls. Fifty-six percent (56%) of U.S. voters now oppose the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s the highest level of opposition found – reached three times before – in six months of polling. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 40% of voters favor the health care plan. Perhaps more significantly, 46% now Strongly Oppose the plan, compared to 19% who Strongly Favor it. [There ya have it folks…ed]

Copenhagen stalls decision on catastrophic climate change for six years
The key decision on preventing catastrophic climate change will be delayed for up to six years if the Copenhagen summit delivers a compromise deal which ignores advice from the UN’s science body. World leaders will not agree on the emissions cuts recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and are likely instead to commit to reviewing them in 2015 or 2016. The delay will anger developing countries who, scientists say, will face the worst effects of climate change despite having contributed relatively little of the man-made greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. A draft proposal released by the United Nation’s climate negotiating group outlines a plan for creating two new international agencies designed to transfer technology and money from developed Western states such as the United States to undeveloped Third World Countries. Released Friday by the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long Term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA)–the U.N. group responsible for negotiating a successor to the Kyoto Protocol treaty at Copenhagen–the draft proposal outlines the major commitments and obligations of both developed and undeveloped nations. Climate change for 18 years: ‘An orchestrated litany of lies’
As the Copenhagen climate talks enter their final phase, President Obama and 115 other world leaders are attempting to impose drastic carbon dioxide reductions on developed nations and to transfer billions of dollars to Third World countries to help them do the same, based entirely on highly suspect computer models. Dr. Vincent Gray, who resigned from the Royal Society of New Zealand to protest the inaccuracies in a report on climate change it issued on July 12, minced no words when he called the entire global warming scenario “an orchestrated litany of lies”: “As an Expert Reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for eighteen years, that is to say, from the very beginning. I have submitted thousands of comments to all of the Reports. Poll: Just 37% Call Global Warming High Priority
With world leaders debating how to address climate change in Copenhagen and the U.S. Senate poised to take up a climate bill in the coming months, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds that just 37 percent of Americans believe the issue should be a priority for government leaders. That’s a significant drop from April of 2007, when 52 percent of those surveyed said the issue should be a high priority. Obama: What a Difference A Year Makes
Historians are likely to look back at 2009, the first year of Barack Obama’s term in office, and assess the damage it has done to Americans and to the image of America as the primary line of defense against the world’s thugs. I long ago stopped reading news magazines such as Newsweek, Time and U.S. News and World Report because they became increasingly useless as a mean to know what was actually occurring. Throughout the 2008 campaign they and others devoted cover-after-cover to the face of Obama, becoming in the process a very bad joke. It was a total abnegation of objectivity. I am soon to drop my subscription to The Economist, a still widely respected news magazine because it has ceased to meet even the most fundamental standards of accuracy regarding an alleged “global warming” even though the planet has been cooling for a decade. Tiger Woods took his biggest blow yet as global giant Accenture Sunday dumped the cheating golf great. Saying Tiger was “no longer the right representative,” Accenture backed out of an endorsement deal worth an estimated $7 million a year. The consulting and accounting firm, which once used Woods in a ubiquitous ad campaign that urged customers to “Go on, be a Tiger,” scrubbed his image off its Web site Friday after he admitted to a string of extramarital affairs. D.C. hands out $15M in bonuses despite recession, budget gaps
The economy has been in the dumps for years, but the good times keep on rolling for some favored D.C. employees. City officials have doled out nearly $15 million in bonuses and awards since Mayor Adrian Fenty took office in January 2007, records obtained by The Examiner under the Freedom of Information Act show. Among the big winners were Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, who was handed $41,250 in August 2007 after barely two months on the job; Department of Health Director Pierre Vigilance, who was given $15,000 in 2008; and city property manager Robin-Eve Jasper, handed $18,000 over two years. Government salaries soar in bad times
Something President Obama said during his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in Oslo about making foreign policy is equally applicable at home, namely, that the world must be dealt with as it is, not as we might wish it to be. This was highlighted by a USA Today investigative report published last week that found “federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.” In other words, bad times for the rest of us are good times for the federal establishment. This recession has been such a boom time for the tax-supported bureaucracy that “federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.” [As long as these unionized federal workers keep voting Democrat the IRS will always find a way to look the other way when they don’t pay their taxes…ed]
Postal Service Employees Owed $300M in Taxes, IRS Data Shows
Maybe their tax payments got lost in the mail. The U.S. Postal Service turns out to have more tax delinquents in its ranks than any other federal agency or department, according to the Internal Revenue Service. IRS statistics from 2008 detailing the amount of money federal workers failed to pay the government in taxes showed postal service employees owed $297.93 million — nearly 10 percent of the $3.04 billion owed by federal employees and retirees from dozens of agencies. [19,000 postal employees owe nearly 300 million in back taxes. Remember that the next time the announcement comes that the price of stamps is going up again…ed]
Feds owe Uncle Sam $3B in unpaid taxes
At a time when the White House is projecting the largest deficit in the nation’s history, Uncle Sam is trying to recover billions of dollars in unpaid taxes from its own employees. Federal workers owe more than $3 billion in income taxes they failed to pay in 2008. According to Internal Revenue Service documents, 276,300 federal employees and retirees owe $3,042,200,000. The IRS tracks the voluntary compliance rate of federal employees and retirees each year, and each year feds come up short. The one bright spot in this year’s report is that after several years of a steady increase, the amount owed by feds is down from the previous year. Islamic attacks on our airline industry
Once aboard the plane, they spoke loudly in Arabic. They changed seats without authorization. They roamed the plane over the objections of the flight attendants, entering the first class area without permission or legitimate purpose. They moved their stowed luggage from the overhead bins for no apparent reason. One even attempted to open the cockpit door, explaining that he mistakenly thought it was the lavatory. Their behavior was described as disruptive and suspicious, which so alarmed the flight crew that the Muslim passengers were removed from the airplane by order of the captain. The above describes the activities of Hamdan al-Shalawi and Muhammed al-Qudhaieen, two passengers aboard an America West flight from Phoenix to Washington, DC in November 1999. Despite the FBI’s eventual admission that this incident was a “dry run” to assess airline security and flight crew response in preparation for the 9/11 terrorist hijackings, the incident earned only a footnote in the 9/11 Commission Report and its significance was deliberately downplayed. At that time, there were allegations of profiling by the airline, flight crew and authorities, and accusations of hypersensitivity and hysterics by many who believed that witnesses were making “too much” of the incident. [When traveling by airplane I would encourage all Americans to assist the flight crew in forcefully placing any squirrelly muslims back in their seats or out the door onto the tarmac…ed]
Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, says the Obama administration is stalling in providing information to the leaders of the House and Senate and the congressional intelligence committees on the multiple murders allegedly committed by a radical Muslim Army officer at Fort Hood more than a month ago. So far, the committee chairman and congressional leaders have received no detailed, substantive briefing on the event and what is known about its perpetrator. “You know, they’re playing out the string,” Hoekstra said Thursday. “We’re going home next week, (and) they will have effectively made it through three months with giving no substantive briefings on Fort Hood.” [Why would the B. Hussein Obama administration be stonewalling Congress concerning this murderous muslim?…ed]
Obama tells US banks to lend more and not oppose reform
President Barack Obama has told bankers to increase loans to small and medium-size businesses. The president was speaking after a meeting – which he described as “candid” – with executives of some of America’s top banks. He said US banks had received extraordinary assistance and demanded they show extraordinary commitment to rebuild the US economy. He also warned their lobbyists not to block moves for regulatory reform. [That’s odd. Since when can a US president TELL banks how to run their businesses? Especially a guy like Obama who hasn’t done so much as manage a taco stand?…ed]
The government is increasingly monitoring Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites for tax delinquents, copyright infringers and political protesters. A public interest group has filed a lawsuit to learn more about this monitoring, in the hope of starting a national discussion and modifying privacy laws as necessary for the online era. Law enforcement is not saying a lot about its social surveillance, but examples keep coming to light. The Wall Street Journal reported this summer that state revenue agents have been searching for tax scofflaws by mining information on MySpace and Facebook. In October, the F.B.I. searched the New York home of a man suspected of helping coordinate protests at the Group of 20 meeting in Pittsburgh by sending out messages over Twitter. They are the best of the best in the entire world. They comprise the top 1 percent of Americans in physical ability, mental aptitude and sheer bravery. They can push themselves to the physical limits of the human body. Most have advanced degrees from America’s best universities and many speak multiple languages fluently. They are America’s Navy SEALs, and they put their lives on the line every day in defense of our nation, all of them willing to die to protect America’s way of life. Why then would the nation they serve take three SEALs off the battle field and consider putting them through courts-martial proceedings based on their capture of one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq? Ahmed Hashim Abed is believed to have planned the 2004 Fallujah ambush that resulted in the savage murder of four Americans. [The commander in chief of these brave men isn’t qualified to wipe the mud off their boots. The court martial of these Navy SEALS is an absolute disgrace…ed]
Norwegians Must Be Asking: Why Obama for Peace Prize?
Norway, it seems, has gotten as good as it gave. After the six Norwegians on the Nobel Peace Prize Committee awarded the coveted honor to a man who clearly and self-admittedly did not deserve it, Norwegians themselves have become upset with the man and, by inference, their decision to honor him in this singular fashion. (SNIP) A little bit of background research might have alerted the Nobel Committee to Obama’s annoying tendency toward expediency and away from commitment to principle. Instead, the Nobel Committee mimicked America’s voters when they rushed to select Obama. Both votes, by the American public and the Nobel Committee, struck me as more appropriately viewed as a rebuke to former President Bush than as a rah-rah for Obama. [Imagine if the media had done its job and informed the American public about B. Hussein Obama long before he was elected. Too bad for this country that their agenda closely matches his…ed]
