Millions face shrinking Social Security payments
Millions of older people face shrinking Social Security checks next year, the first time in a generation that payments would not rise. The trustees who oversee Social Security are projecting there won’t be a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the next two years. That hasn’t happened since automatic increases were adopted in 1975. [This announcement should make the largest voting block in the country happy to hear. Screw with their healthcare and now their social security, boy that’s one way to really piss them off…ed]
2010 SENATE CAMPAIGN: Polls show potential GOP challengers would beat Harry Reid
It’s the highest stakes ever for a Nevada election, and former boxer Sen. Harry Reid is on the ropes early. Either Republican Danny Tarkanian or Sue Lowden would knock out Reid in a general election, according to a recent poll of Nevada voters. The results suggest the Democratic Senate majority leader will have to punch hard and often in order to retain his position as the most accomplished politician in state history, in terms of job status. Nevadans favored Tarkanian over Reid 49 percent to 38 percent and Lowden over Reid 45 percent to 40 percent, according to the poll. [Dingy Harry is feeling the heat in Nevada. Health care and the ailing Constitution
Here’s the question I didn’t get a chance to ask President Obama when he stopped by Montana recently. So far as I know, no one else has asked it of him either: “If the federal role in health care is not enumerated in the Constitution, and it isn’t, then shouldn’t it be reserved to the states or the people as guaranteed by the 10th Amendment?” The 10th Amendment, for those of you who don’t already know, says, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Pretty powerful stuff, if anyone followed it — but they don’t. [Amen…ed]
Gov. Paterson has played the race card. The state’s first black governor yesterday blamed his political woes — and those of President Obama — on a white-dominated media that he accused of taking part in an “orchestrated” attack campaign. “We’re not in the post-racial period,” Paterson said in a freewheeling interview on the liberal talk-radio station WWRL. “My feeling is it’s being orchestrated, it’s a game, and people who pay attention know that.” [Turns out Obama wasn’t too pleased with this little race card outburst by the utter failure of a governor…ed]
Peeved Obama trumps Paterson’s race card
President Obama’s aides were so furious that Gov. Paterson dragged him into a rant about racism that they sent a message sharply criticizing the governor’s comments just hours after he made them, The Post has learned. Aides to Obama were angered by Paterson’s tirade on liberal talk-radio station WWRL on Friday, sources said. [I’d say most of this country has grown beyond weary with these black politicians who’s performance in office sucks, blaming racism on their problems. It isn’t your race Paterson, it’s your incompetence that has the people ready to throw your ass out of the office you were never elected to in the first place…ed]
‘Clunkers’ Program Benefits Foreign Automakers More, Data Shows
The Obama administration has declared the wildly popular ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program a success, saying it has revived the country’s ailing auto industry and taken polluting vehicles off the road. But the data shows that the program, which ends Monday, has apparently benefited foreign automakers more than their U.S. counterparts. Smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles like the Toyota Corolla are top sellers, while buyers are trading in SUV’s like the Ford Explorer to be scrapped, turning the already dwindling number of American car owners into the growing ranks of foreign car drivers. Obama Makes a Political Booty Call to the Church
What’s this? Obama now needs the Church—which he’s been regularly dissing—to come to his aid and help “prod Congress” to pass his Health Scare Deform Swill? Well, la-di-da. In the words of the angry and bad serial dater, Alanis Morissette, “Isn’t it ironic, don’t ‘cha think? A little too ironic, and yeah, I really do think.” Barack’s call to believers this past week is the political equivalent of the phenomenon randy kiddos in our culture refer to as a “booty call.” [Great article but that title really rocks…ed]
Large Texas bank shut down by federal regulators
Guaranty Bank became the second-largest U.S. bank to fail this year after the Texas lender was shut down by regulators and most of its operations sold at a loss of billions of dollars for the U.S. government to a major Spanish bank. The transaction approved by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. marked the first time a foreign bank has bought a failed U.S. bank. The bank failure, the 10th largest in U.S. history, is expected to cost the deposit insurance fund an estimated $3 billion. [Three banks were closed in 2007, 25 in 2008 and now 81 this year…ed]
The Lockerbie Bomber’s Release: An Absolute Disgrace
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: If this doesn’t make you angry, nothing will. This Libyan terrorist is a cold-blooded murderer, a mass murderer, and now he is home in Libya with his family. He is responsible for killing 270 people in the 1988 Pan Am bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland. He went to prison for his role in the bombing, sentenced to life, but only served eight years — eight years. Now, if you do the math, that means he served less than 14 days for each innocent person he slaughtered. [This man served less that two weeks in prison for each of the murdered victims and is now home hanging out with friends and family and being treated like a hero…ed]
Why so little outcry from Washington on al-Megrahi?
I smell a rat in the release of the convicted Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Basset al-Megrahi. Here’s what U. S. President Barack Obama had to say about the release. “We thought it was a mistake.” In a written statement, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pronounced herself “deeply disappointed.” Does that not seem like strangely mild language to use about the release of a man convicted in the worst international terrorist attack against U. S. citizens before 9/11? [Libya is a Muslim nation and we all know how badly Obama wants to please Muslims these days. Perhaps that partially explains the lack of ‘outrage’ from this administration?…ed]
Mullen worried over public support for Afghan war
The U.S. military’s top uniformed officer expressed concern Sunday about eroding public support for the war in Afghanistan and said the country remains vulnerable to being taken over again by extremist forces. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said President Barack Obama’s new strategy for defeating the Taliban and al-Qaida was a work in progress as more U.S. troops are put in place. In broadcast interviews, Adm. Mike Mullen wouldn’t say whether more American forces troops would be needed. A large number of civilian experts is also required to help bring stability to Afghanistan’s government and develop the economy. Teacher allegedly paid student after sex
A former Helper Junior High School teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student paid her victim between $1,400 and $1,500 after the encounters, court documents allege. New details about the relationship between Melissa Ann Andreini and her alleged victim emerged from a probable cause statement recently filed in 7th District Court. According to the statement, the victim’s mother confronted Andreini at Andreini’s home in Helper on July 3 after finding out the teacher was supposedly having sex with her son. Andreini admitted to the boy’s mother that she had sex with the teenager on several occasions at her home, according to the statement. White House Reveals Identity of Firm That Sent Unsolicited E-Mails on Health Reform
The White House hired a private communications company based in Minnesota to distribute mass e-mails, helping to shed light on how some recipients received e-mails in support of President Obama’s health care plan without signing up for them, FOX News has learned. The company, Govdelivery, describes itself as the world’s leading provider of government-to-citizen communication solutions and says its e-mail service provides a fully-automated on-demand public communication system. It is still unknown how much taxpayer money the White House provides to Govdelivery for its services. [This was the plan all along. U.S. adds clerks to clear clunkers
The U.S. Transportation Department, billions of dollars behind in paying “cash-for-clunkers” rebates, has hired private contractors and solicited volunteers from the Federal Aviation Administration and its own executive ranks to work overtime to clear the backlog. Employees of the FAA’s air-traffic-control unit were asked to help, but the Transportation Department stressed Friday that essential safety personnel were not diverted from their duties. Obama ‘Quite Comfortable’ As One-Term President, White House Spokesman Says
President Barack Obama is “quite comfortable” with the prospect of being a one-term president in order to address the issues he is concerned about, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday. The comment came on the same day the president’s approval reached a new low, with only a 45 percent approval rating in the Zogby International poll released Friday. The poll said that 51 percent disapprove of the president’s job performance. The Real Clear Politics average of all polls puts the president approval rating at 52.2 percent. Quentin Tarantino, Brad Pitt’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’ earns glorious $37.6M at movie box office
Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino have landed their history lesson on World War II at the top of the box office. Their war epic “Inglourious Basterds” took in $37.6 million over its first weekend to continue a late-summer revenue boost for Hollywood. The haul for “Inglourious Basterds” was more than twice the receipts for the No. 1 movie over the same weekend last year, “Tropic Thunder.” [Most of the crap coming out of Hollywierd blows but I may have to pick up this DVD when it hits the stores. Hacker attack disables Michael Savage website
The website for radio talk show host Michael Savage was forced to shut down for nearly an hour this morning as technical experts attempted to undo the work of a computer hacker, who had snuck into the webpage’s server and damaged the site. As WND has reported, Savage has been personally banned from visiting Great Britain by the nation’s homeland security agency because of his bold political views, leading Savage to file legal action demanding the United Kingdom remove his name from a list of banned individuals that includes Muslim terrorists and leaders of hate groups. Savage has also been highly critical of the U.K.’s recent release of the “Lockerbie Bomber,” Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, prompting the host’s speculation that the hacking of his site could be linked to the British government’s continued pattern of hostility toward him: [Savage and the British government have been going at it for months now.
