Administration plans to wind down clunkers program.
The Obama administration is developing plans to wind down the popular Cash for Clunkers program and could announce by Friday when the incentives will no longer be available. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Wednesday the department would announce within 48 hours how it intends to discontinue the program that offers car buyers rebates of $3,500 or $4,500 for trading in older vehicles for new, more fuel-efficient models. Limbaugh makes gay joke about Barney Frank; “He spends most of time living around Uranus”
Rush Limbaugh, apparently jealous and angry over attention-gathering toads turning “town-hall” meetings into a daily ruckus, has joined the “say-whatever-the-hell-you-want” hit parade, with a jab; well, not really, more an apparent joke mocking Barney Frank’s sexuality in response to Frank’s tough stance with a town hall protester last night. CIA Director Leon Panetta stunned Washington earlier this summer by disclosing, in an emergency closed-door briefing to Congress, that for the last eight years, the agency he now runs illegally concealed a secret terrorist-assassination program. The reaction was predictably explosive. (SNIP) But according to a half-dozen sources, including several very senior, recently retired CIA officials, clandestine-service officers, and Cabinet-level officials from the Bush administration, the real story is at once more innocent—Panetta was mistaken; no law was broken—and far more troubling: an inexperienced CIA director, unfamiliar with how his vast, complicated agency works, unable to trust senior officials within his own agency, and desperate to keep his hands clean, screwed up. Whole fools: Wrongheaded boycott of upscale market over CEO’s health care push.
Sixteen thousand idiots on aisle seven. That’s the number of people in a growing Facebook group calling for a boycott of Whole Foods because of an alleged misdeed by CEO John Mackey. Did Mackey swindle his shareholders? Sell rotten free-range beef? No, he had the brains to offer employees an innovative health plan and the temerity to write about it on the Op-Ed page of The Wall Street Journal. Daily Gut: Barney Frank’s Heroic Stand Against Tyranny.
So Barney Frank finally found someone he could beat in a debate. The Congressman was speaking at a town committee meeting at Dartmouth, Massachusetts, when a crazy lady approached the microphone with a quivering rant – linking Obama’s health care plan to the Nazis. This was a lay-up for Frank, for the bug-eyed woman was a LaRouche follower, a member of a group of far-left conspiracy chuckleheads – who, like cockroaches, never go away despite the bug spray. These poor folks need medical help, not publicity, but Frank didn’t see it that way. It was his lucky day: he could speak truth to power, even if the power might have been a lonely shut-in. [The left wing media outlets were very careful in not identifying this wacky woman as a LaRouche disciple hoping the impression would be left that she was some right wing nutjob…ed]
Insurers: Dems mount ‘fishing expedition’
A spokesman for the health insurance industry accused congressional Democrats on Wednesday of mounting a “fishing expedition,” as dozens of individual insurers weighed whether to honor a request for sensitive financial records sought in a House committee’s investigation. Robert Zirkelbach, spokesman for America’s Health Insurance Plans, said top Democrats on House Energy and Commerce Committee hoped to “silence the health insurance industry and distract attention away from the fact that the American people are rejecting a government-run plan” as part of President Obama’s planned overhaul. Biden to announce almost $1.2B for medical records.
Vice President Joe Biden plans to announce Thursday nearly $1.2 billion in grants to help hospitals transition to electronic medical records. Biden and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius were set to detail in Chicago how that piece of the $787 billion economic stimulus plan would help Americans when they go to the hospital or their doctors. You’re A Racist! The Ultimate Emotional Intimidation.
I am on the email list of a dear black friend of 20 years. He is a minister, writer and professor. He has mentored and advised me with great wisdom on numerous occasions. With me being a black conservative Republican and he a Democrat, we avoid talking politics. Since the election of Obama, my friend will talk about nothing else. He is in Baltimore. I’m in Florida. Every time he calls me, he turns the conversation into trashing all who oppose Obama’s agenda. Thank God for caller ID. Demand rises for publicly funded burials.
The rough economy is inflicting hardship on people even in death. Coroners and funeral directors in several cities say the number of people seeking government-paid funerals, cremations and burials is spiking. Most counties and states will use public money to cremate or bury people who are too poor to pay for private services. “People just aren’t in a position to pay $7,000 for a private funeral and burial,” says Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, where the number of people seeking county burial has nearly doubled since last year. New jobless claims rise unexpectedly to 576K.
The number of first-time claims for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly for the second straight week, a sign that jobs remain scarce even as other data show the economy is stabilizing. Many economists expect the economy to grow at a modest pace in the second half of this year, bringing an end to the longest recession since World War II. But jobs are likely to remain scarce and many analysts worry that persistently high unemployment could cause consumers to hold back on spending, threatening a recovery. ABC’s Charles Gibson to Cindy Sheehan: Thanks for your sacrifice. Now get lost.
In an appearance August 18 on WLS radio in Chicago, ABC News anchor Charles Gibson was asked about anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan’s plans to travel to Martha’s Vineyard next week, where she will protest the Iraq and Afghanistan wars while President Obama is vacationing there. Gibson, whose newscast and network featured Sheehan when she led anti-war protests outside President Bush’s Texas ranch in 2005, answered, “Enough already.” [Sheehan allowed herself to be used like a two dollar ho’ when Bush was president thinking people really cared what she had to say. Plaxico Burress pleads guilty to gun possession.
This time, he didn’t catch a pass. In a surprise move, former Giants superstar Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty today to attempted gun possession — agreeing to a two-year prison term rather than face a guaranteed higher sentence if convicted at trial. The time behind bars — which will work out to 20 months with good behavior — is his penance for accidently shooting himself in the thigh with his own Glock at a crowded Midtown nightclub last November. Conservative leader Gary Bauer warned Wednesday that Democratic leaders in Congress will try to ram through their unpopular health-care reform plan later this fall, employing a little-used tactic first conceived as a way to maneuver around the budget deficit battles of the 1980s. (SNIP) “The only remedy for this, is for the minority in Congress…to make it clear that if this is used on such a major piece of legislation, that the minority Republicans will literally shut down the Senate by using parliamentary maneuvers, and so forth–so that literally nothing else will pass this year and next, until there is another election,” Bauer, who is president of the group American Values, said. Quote of the day.
You’ve heard that this is all going to mean government funding of abortion. Not true. These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation–and that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother’s keeper and I am my sister’s keeper. And on the wealthiest nation on earth right now, we are neglecting to live up to that call.
-Barack Obama, fabricating his own fabrication about federally funded abortions. Oh he also has an aunt on public assistance living illegally in the U.S. and a brother in Kenya who lives on a dollar a month. So much for being the “keeper” of one’s own.
