A Tampa woman charged with leaving a puppy in a locked, hot car while she was shopping faced a judge today, and was told she can never own an animal again in Hillsborough County. Prosecutors say it was 19-year-old Amy Chantarak’s second arrest in a year and a half for leaving a dog in a hot car.
Two suspected California counterfeiters are in jail for allegedly operating a high-volume counterfeit driver’s license ring for customers in the West and Mexico. Francisco Pullido and Joel Lopez of Greenfield were arrested Tuesday by Monterey County sheriff’s deputies. They were booked for investigation of possessing and manufacturing fake official documents.

A real estate agent said a resident of Boston’s upscale Back Bay section plunked down $300,000 to own what is believed to be the priciest parking space in the city’s history. Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage agent Debra Sordillo told The Boston Globe that several residents of a building on Commonwealth Avenue bid for the coveted space, driving up what had been the original asking price of $250,000.

Forest officials decided to evacuate the trout when the fire started moving toward Diamond Creek.

A man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing underwear from more than 20 women in a series of home break-ins going back to 2006. Twenty-five-year-old Thomas Williams of Alliance pleaded guilty yesterday to 11 felonies, including nine burglary counts. He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor voyeurism.

BBQ explosion sends elderly man to hospital with severe burns.
An elderly Mesa man was in serious condition in the burn unit of the Maricopa Medical Center after suffering third-degree burns over nearly his entire body when the propane tank on his barbecue grill exploded Wednesday. The man, who is in his 70s, was barbecuing under the carport of his mobile home in Brentwood Manner, 120 N. Val Vista Drive near Main Street about 5 p.m. when the explosion took place, according to Dave Johnson, a spokesman for the Mesa Fire Department.

An elderly man was killed this morning after he stumbled into traffic while checking his mailbox alongside NW 122 west of Rockwell Avenue. Shortly after 10 a.m., a man in his late 70s was checking his mailbox in the 7600 block of NW 122, when the accident occurred, Oklahoma City Police Lt. Roger Bratcher said.

It would have been another beating of a homeless man Wednesday, but this man fought back, police said. Felix Garcia, 40, was attacked by three young men at dawn Wednesday near 72nd Street and Collins Avenue, Miami Beach police said. They doused him with pepper spray, kicked him and flung rocks at him. So Garcia pulled out his knife and stabbed one of the attackers in the chest, witnesses reported.

Two south Florida deputies are being called heroes after rescuing a person from a burning car on June 2. The rescue was captured on police dash cam video, showing Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies racing to a burning car where two people were fighting to get out.
