GOP’s Snowe will vote for Democratic health bill
Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe broke with her party Tuesday and said she will vote for a Democratic health care bill, handing President Barack Obama a much-sought boost in his quest to expand access to medical coverage to all Americans. Approval of the legislation by the Senate Finance Committee was a foregone conclusion going into Tuesday’s vote, since Democrats outnumber Republicans 13-10 on the panel. But Snowe’s decision gave the vote a significance that transcends partisan divisions. For months, congressional Republicans have been virtually unanimous in denouncing the Democratic bills as an unwarranted expansion of government influence. Symbol carved into green at Lakeville golf course
Police along with the Secret Service are investigating after a local country club discovered a symbol resembling a swastika carved into the green. Lakeville County Club workers discovered the vandalism early Monday morning. Carved into the green on the 18th hole was a swastika look-a-like next to President Barack Obama’s name. 6-Year-Old Scout Suspended for Bringing Knife-Fork-Spoon Utensil to School
Six-year-old Zachary Christie was so excited to become a Cub Scout that he brought his camping utensil to school. The tool serves as a spoon, a fork and a knife, and Zachary wanted to use it at lunch. What Zachary didn’t know was that the gizmo violated his school’s zero-tolerance policy on weapons. Dollar loses reserve status to yen & euro
Ben Bernanke’s dollar crisis went into a wider mode yesterday as the greenback was shockingly upstaged by the euro and yen, both of which can lay claim to the world title as the currency favored by central banks as their reserve currency. Over the last three months, banks put 63 percent of their new cash into euros and yen — not the greenbacks — a nearly complete reversal of the dollar’s onetime dominance for reserves, according to Barclays Capital. The dollar’s share of new cash in the central banks was down to 37 percent — compared with two-thirds a decade ago. Although little notice (or reported) by the Elite Media that is carrying Barack Obama water for him, there were several reports last week that some of the leading developing nations are working on a plan to detach the American dollar from being the “reserve” currency upon which the world economy is based. A Connecticut college has warned students interning for late-night, skirt-chasing TV funnyman David Letterman to stay at arm’s length from the host. I’m not saying we should bring it back. I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark” on his nationally syndicated airwaves. “CNN and MSNBC must immediately and publicly source when Limbaugh uttered this phrase. He has unequivocally denied it. Now it is up to the same news media that reported it as fact to prove that it was, indeed, stated,” NewsBusters Publisher Bozell insisted in a statement, arguing that if the charges are undocumentable, the offending networks are “100% guilty of character assassination.” [They can’t source this bald face lie and they know it. Rush Limbaugh says he’d gladly sit down for a conversation with President Obama if the controversial talk-radio host ever scored an invite to the White House. “Absolutely,” Limbaugh, among the president’s fiercest critics, told NBC when asked if he’d be willing to speak with Obama. “I’d be honest with him. The President of the United States is the President of the United States. Barack Obama is sending an additional 13,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan beyond the 21,000 he announced publicly in March, it was revealed today. The additional forces are primarily support forces – such as engineers and medical personnel – bringing the total buildup Obama has approved for the war-torn nation to 34,000. ‘Obama authorised the whole thing. The only thing you saw announced in a press release was the 21,000,’ a defence official told the Washington Post. Hampton University crowned its first non-black Miss HU Friday, leading to a division on campus that prompted her to write President Barack Obama. The White House is attacking Fox News again: it’s insufficiently obsequious for the White House’s taste. It’s a “research arm” of the Republican party, you see. No candidate and no administration has gotten such glowing treatment from the media. But no, they find the one TV cable network that sees its role as entirely independent of the Obama agenda to be such an irritant and so offensive that they must grouse about the speck of tough coverage in an ocean of fluff. Do you see any turnaround yet?” WYNN: No, in the sense that I think that the priorities of the administration should have been more directly focused on job creation. From the day of the inauguration forward, the priority should have been job creation. And the most powerful weapon and the tool that the government has for that is its tax policy. If the government had used its power to restrain its tax collection they would have given everybody who runs small businesses, large businesses, a chance to hire more people and that could have been done an entirely different way. With eight or $900 billion we could have created four or five million jobs, which would have made a big difference. While Mayor Bloomberg was banning trans fats and requiring chain restaurants to post calorie counts, his Health Department was dishing out free coupons to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken, The Post has learned. Since 1993, eight years before Bloomberg took office, the agency has been giving out $5 vouchers to the fast-food joints, along with round-trip MetroCards and coupons to variety stores, to encourage tuberculosis patients to return to clinics around the city for six-month treatment programs. Senior Democrats are taking shots at the House’s new ethics watchdog, which has come back to bite some caucus members a year after Democratic leaders created it. Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) acknowledged a growing number of concerns about the Office of Congressional Ethics’s (OCE) record and predicted a coming public clash over its activities. “A lot of people have been raising concerns [about the OCE], and I support them,” Clyburn said. “At some point in the not-so-distant future, these concerns will have to be addressed.” [The Democrats create an ethics watchdog panel then freak out when it predictably comes back to bite these scumbags in the ass. The Venezuelan president launched a tirade against the “bourgeois” sport recently during one of his infamous Sunday national television addresses which can last for several hours. His government has also moved in recent weeks to shut down two of the country’s best-known golf courses, according to The New York Times.
