One year old boy escapes mother’s grasp while on balcony, plunges eight stories to the ground….and lives!

It’s being touted as the miracle of Mississauga Valley Blvd. A one-year-old boy survived an eight-storey plunge yesterday that was broken by a bush, suffering only a broken nose and some cuts and bruises. Peel police say the toddler squirmed out of his mother’s arms as they stood on the corner balcony and fell, landing on the two-metre-tall bush. The fall was seen and heard by a building superintendent in the Burnhamthorpe Rd. and Hurontario St. area.

After attacking the child, 34-year-old Angel Vidal Mendoza Sr. quickly left his apartment in a wheelchair, entered a backyard of a nearby vacant home and attacked his own legs with an ax, severely injuring himself, Bakersfield police reported.

Pink boxer shorts, a red T-shirt and bedroom slippers aren’t everyone’s idea of the ideal uniform for fighting the Taleban. But a young US soldier found himself battling the enemy in his underwear when his platoon came under a sudden attack by Taleban militants in Afghanistan on Monday. Zachary Boyd, 19, was sleeping when the ambush occurred and only had time to put on his helmet and body armour before grabbing his gun and rushing into action, leaving his “I love New York” pink boxers on full display.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts directed employees earlier this month not to log onto the Drudge Report website with government-issued computers due to potential viruses on the site. In an e-mail message sent May 4, Paul Harvey, an information-technology official for the Boston office, wrote that security specialists with the U.S. Attorney’s Office at the Department of Justice asked them “to reformat/reimage two computers because the user visited the drudgereport.com site.”

Russian government still not quite ready to get in touch with their gay side.

Russia on Friday warned it would clamp down on an unsanctioned gay rights protest in Moscow planned to coincide with the Eurovision Song Contest final in the Russian capital. Russia is proudly trumpeting the holding of the annual pop extravaganza in Moscow as the latest example of its international prestige. But away from the lights and laser beams at the mammoth 80,000-capacity Olympiysky Arena, a planned “Slavic Gay Pride” parade in central Moscow on Saturday risks showing up another aspect of modern Russia.

Wild pictures claiming to show the space shuttle Atlantis silhouetted against the sun. Pardon my skepticism but they do look cool!

NASA’S space shuttle Atlantis has been caught in a stunning snap silhouetted against the sun. The pic — the first ever image taken of a solar transit of a space shuttle and Hubble Space Telescope — was taken by an amateur astronomer from his back garden.

NYPD officer, stabbed in eye and brain last January, finally able to walk out of hospital and go home. Doctors say his recovery was a miracle.

NYPD Sgt. Timothy Smith did something Friday his doctors and family weren’t sure he’d ever do again – walk out of the hospital without any help. When the 12-year vet arrived at Bellevue Hospital Jan. 15, he had been stabbed in the eye by a deranged Queens man off his anti-psychotic medication.

Shocking. Another Chicago area politician doesn’t pay his taxes saying he was just too darn busy and personal stuff like this falls through the cracks. Again I will go out on a limb and say he is a Democrat.

Cook County Board President Todd Stroger said during a radio interview Friday that the Internal Revenue Service put a lien on his house because he was late filing an amended income tax return. (snip) “I have a lot of things going on. So sometimes a few of the personal issues might slip through the cracks while I’m fighting for the residents of the county and fighting the newspapers,” Stroger said.

Investigators later found the body of a boy they believe is between the ages of 3 and 5.

It may work for some people but my dog will never be put into one of these things.

When a dog comes home from a walk filthy and smelling of something unmentionable, the temptation sometimes is to throw the darn thing in the washing machine. Well, now you can. An entrepreneur has come up with the Dog-O-Matic, a mini car-wash that transforms pets from filthy to fluffy in half an hour.

If you are white, was born in an African country and have become an American citizen why shouldn’t you be able to say you are an African-American?

Can a white guy be African-American? Paulo Serodio says he is. Born and raised in Mozambique and now a naturalized U.S. citizen, Serodio, 45, has filed a lawsuit against a New Jersey medical school, claiming he was harassed and ultimately suspended for identifying himself during a class cultural exercise as a “white African-American.”

Here’s some Canadian justice for ya. Woman handcuffed, tossed in holding cell then fined over $400….for not holding onto handrail on escalator and getting snippy with the po-po.

Anyone who has ridden an escalator and bothered to pay attention has seen – and likely ignored – little signs suggesting riders hold the grimy handrail. In Montreal’s subway system, the friendly advice seems to have taken on the force of law, backed by a $100 fine. Bela Kosoian, a 38-year-old mother of two, says when she didn’t hold the handrail Wednesday she was cuffed, dragged into a small holding cell and fined. “It was horrible, disgusting behaviour [by police],” said Ms. Kosoian, a 38-year-old student of international law. “I did nothing wrong. They should go find the guys who stole my tires off the balcony.”
